Book Review: Get Wisdom Get Understanding

Get Wisdom, by Gregory Ross, reads almost like a sermon series outlining the fundamentals of the Christian faith. Ross begins by instilling in the reader a sense of why Christianity is a necessary component in living a fulfilled, directed, intentional and mindful life.
Once Ross has established the necessity of Christianity, he goes on to spell out the fundamentals of the belief system, building one upon the other over a series of chapters, and ends with a sort of "alter call," enticing his readers to embrace what he esteems to be the only meaningful path to life.
Ross' writing style is direct and ernest, while occasionally falling into unnecessary flourishes, such as the verses of poetry that punctuate each chapter.
Nevertheless, one can feel that the author is being sincere in what he has to say, and the fact that he is speaking from experience and a life full of mistakes that have led him to these conclusions pulsates throughout the book.

Ross seems largely to be addressing a non-Christian audience with the tone of a big-tent evangelist, which may make this book a good resource for evangelists looking to borrow sermons from it.
The book might recommend itself to those interested in learning about and pursuing the Christian faith - and this seems to be the audience he is addressing.
To this end, the book would necessarily have to be placed into the hands of someone already enthusiastic about learning the basics of Christianit, as Ross' writings are probably a bit too intense to coax in the skeptic.
Overall, the book reads like a classic evangelical sermon, and seems to be intended as such.
